Shelby County Democrats use 2003 recording of racial slur in radio ad against Republicans

In a radio ad posted on the Shelby County Democratic Party's website, party chairman Bryan Carson alleges racism in Mayor Mark Luttrell's administration, tracing it to audio of a 2003 fire fighters union meeting presided over by interim county fire chief Dale Burress, a Luttrell appointee, in which a racial slur was used by an unidentified man.

But Burress said Wednesday morning that he was not aware of the slur during the meeting.

"I didn't hear it," Burress said. "I was talking to a group up in the front of the room."
