Serious injuries reported in Highway 58 traffic crash

A traffic crash occurred at 6100 Highway 58 at approximately 8 a.m. this morning involving a minivan and a pickup truck, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Police Department.

The minivan was determined to be traveling south down Highway 58 and the pickup truck was stopped in the middle turn lane facing north, according to the release. For reasons yet to be determined, the pickup truck suddenly turned left in front of the minivan causing a collision.

The driver of the pickup truck suffered life threatening injuries and was transported by EMS to a local hospital. The driver of the minivan suffered minor lacerations, and the two children who were passengers in the car suffered minor injuries, according to the release.

Both children were secured in child restraints, which Investigators believe saved their lives, the release said.

Investigators and medical staff are working to identify the driver of the pickup truck. The investigation is ongoing.
