The Rant

Both Republicans and Democrats sit on the VA oversight committees, and neither saw this coming? They can fix it by sweeping it under the rug.

Dear citizens of California, please do not blame my guns for your crazy children.

My dream that I would hear the eloquent voices of Maya Angelou and James Earl Jones on the same stage was laid to rest.

Does anyone care that Tennessee has the second highest paid governor in the U.S., and the UTC basketball coach makes more?

Thank you, Rhonda Thurman. We need a better choice in the election.

Rhonda Thurman: It's not because you're a hairdresser. It's because you're a narcissistic, pedantic, entitlement-claiming drama queen who needs to fade away.

If VW wants to increase its American market share, here are six words that should help: Chattanooga-built, full-size pickup truck!

Cialis should not be nonprescription until birth control pills are also over the counter.

Are TV news reporters taught grammar? The reporters are making Chattanooga and Tennessee sound as if we deserve the rating of the tenth dumbest state.

I drive on the right side of the road like you're supposed to do. About 90 percent of the other drivers use the left lanes.

Kudos to David Cook for expressing the opinion of Tennessee teachers about the absurdity and ridiculousness of TCAP.

"Cialis should not be nonprescription until birth control pills are also over the counter."

Also include morning-after pills.

All three should be easily purchased OTC after a one-time doctor's prescription for safety reasons. If you're willing to take the chance yourself without a doctor's checkup, that's fine with me.

Also include clinics where abortions may be safely performed without interference from government and religious groups.

Well, the negative Rhonda comment was not surprising in its ignorance. First of all, the word pedantic was used incorrectly. The only definition of this that makes sense in this context is "like a pendant." The definition of pendent is as follows:

: a person who annoys other people by correcting small errors and giving too much attention to minor details.

That has nothing to do with Rhonda but it might have something to do with the writer. I think it is the same guy who wrote a long, drawn-out, non-sensical, pedantic letter to the Chattanoogan skewering Rhonda the other day entitled. "It's all about me"..or something like that. In that letter he used the term "myrmidons" which is sort of an ancient way to call someone a red neck. It was the Thessalonians that were in Achilles personal guard. It also means a hired ruffian or unscrupulous subordinate.

In any event, people who try..and I mean try..to make themselves look smart by using words no longer commonly used couldn't be dumber. Most people won't take the time to look them up so you didn't get your point across. You just look weird Roy. I guess that is normal for you.

Also, anyone who knows Rhonda Thurman knows that your other descriptions are just as stupid. Good try Randy.

Timbo, speaking of people who try to make themselves look smart...if you are going to criticize others for their inappropriate use of a word, it would be a good idea for you to at least spell the word in question correctly. There is such a thing as spell-check, you know. Try it sometime. First off, the root word is pedant, not "pendant" and not "pendent" (you can't even be consistent in your misspelling!). And second, the ranter did indeed use the word "pedantic" correctly. You obviously disagree with his/her opinion of Rhonda Thurman as being "pedantic," but that doesn't mean the word was used incorrectly. Actually it was used perfectly within the context it was intended. My god, man, if you are going to nit-pick, at least know what the hell you're nit-picking about!

I am not normally so "pedantic" myself that I go to the trouble of pointing out misspellings and other inconsequential grammatical errors in people's comments. But whenever someone like you is so obnoxiously arrogant in presuming to be so knowledgeable, when in fact you're a first-class dumb ass, well, I do feel inclined to give in to a little pedantry.

Sorry, didn't spell check. Excuseee....me.....I hope I spelled myrmidons correctly. I was accepting your criticism pretty well for awhile because I did make a mistake. Your "dumbass" comment blew if for me. Uncalled for....

I wasn't nit-piking...they were....and you are...

I know that most spelling errors are typos, and that's why I never nit-pick about people's spelling. But you took it upon yourself to correct the ranter about the misuse of the particular word he chose, when he actually used that word correctly. His use of it just didn't agree with your OPINION of Rhonda Thurman and whether she deserves to be called pedantic or not. You were not only nit-picking but nit-picking undeservedly. That in itself deserves someone nit-picking back at you..

Get off your high horse about the name calling. In one of your posts the other day you called all liberals idiots. It's okay for you to call us idiots, but me calling you a dumbass qualifies as crass name-calling in your book? I admit I give in to name calling more than a little frequently but whenever I name-call I always explain why I do so for each particular person. I don't just spit out names and run. What's worse than the name calling is people like you who like to put down others for name calling when you indulge in name-calling yourself! What's the word for that? Oh yeah....hypocrite! Your unbridled arrogance in itself is as bad as any name calling anyway. Even when you don't spew derogatory names you still come across as pompous and demeaning. And it's actually kind of funny because you really have nothing to be arrogant about.

I've had enough of butting heads with you for one day, timmy. It's been fun but it's getting old now, and anyway I gotta run.

I have refrained calling people names. Groups I think are ok. If you aren't a liberal idiot, it shouldn't have bothered you.

Arrogant...maybe I am..but you are just as guilty as I am.

I find it interesting that you find it acceptable to name-call "groups" (just another name for stereotypes). But all you are doing is lumping everybody whom you deem to be "liberal," for example, into a group and then saying, "If you aren't a liberal idiot, it shouldn't have bothered you." How profound! I could just as easily say, "Conservatives are dumb idiots. If you're not a dumb idiot, it shouldn't bother you." That has no meaning whatsoever.

For you to lump all liberals into one huge pot of despicable characters is the problem with today's rabid conservatives (note that I say RABID conservatives, of which there area many today, unfortunately). They/you see all of liberalism as some plague upon the land that needs to be eradicated completely and you fail to acknowledge that liberalism is as much an inherent part of not just America but every other country and indeed all of humanity. Liberalism has always been with us and always will be. And like it or not, liberalism has been responsible for every liberating, humanitarian step forward that this or any other country has ever made. But there is a time for liberalism and there is a time for conservatism. It is when we have a balance of the extremes that we are most productive. Not all liberals are extremists. Yet today's conservatives have fallen prey to the bullsh#t propaganda preached by Faux News and the many TV/radio talking heads who like to spread the notion that liberalism is a "disease."

Very few, if any, of us libs are calling for Marxism or Communism. We don't all hug trees and wear Birkenstocks, nor are we all vegans. Some liberals go to church and have guns and own businesses. But today's conservatives, you included, like to throw us all into the same pot and refer to every one of us as "liberal idiots." Classy.

I limit my name calling and aspersions to individual conservatives and fundies that say especially stupid things because then, even if you see my name-calling as crass, I cite exactly what and why it is that I am calling so-and-so whatever name. I know that not all conservatives are extreme in their outlook and not all Christians are fundamentalist fruitcakes.

Go on believing you are taking the high road in your group name-calling, but in reality you are taking the low road and not bothering to look closely enough at the individual. Like most conservatives today you are just stereotyping and not really bothering to look at the individual and what he/she is actually saying. Group name calling is meaningless.
