KNOXVILLE - The man shot to death by police over the weekend had a long history of arrests, including one for disfiguring the woman whose call brought police to the scene of the shooting, authorities said Monday.

Lonnie Flemming, 31, died Saturday morning after leading officers on a chase near the corner of Selma Avenue and Chestnut Street and then opening fire, according to Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk.

KPD officer Derrick White, 26, was hit in the arm but returned fire and wounded Flemming, according to DeBusk. KPD Officer Thomas Turner, 27, came to White's aid and fired as well when Flemming reached for another weapon, DeBusk said.
