Matthews forgets himself; silence on climate change

He Forgot Who The Enemy is

It took liberal Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., to remind supposed nonpartisan journalist and MSNBC's "Hardball" host Chris Matthews who the enemy is on a recent show. When Warren began droning on about Republicans destroying the middle class with trickle-down Reaganomics, now 30 years in the rear-view mirror, Matthews cut in with his own spiel on crumbling infrastructure and underwater cities. Then, apparently, he forgot himself for a moment and said, "I don't hear you getting it done. The Democrats control the U.S. Senate. Democrats control the White House. When are you going to do what you said you would like to do?"

Warren, whose name Democrats would love to throw in for the 2016 presidential nomination if Hillary Clinton declines, demanded the news show host "stop this" and "think about it." Their real adversaries, she said, are Republicans who "say exactly the same thing. They say there is not enough money" when Democrats push spending for "education, bridges and power grids" or "research."

There was no report if Matthews required treatment for his unbiased moment.

Something In Common With Congress

The days of Walter Cronkite are over.

A recent Gallup survey found that public confidence in television news is at an all-time low. Only 18 percent of Americans surveyed said they had either "a great deal" or "quite a lot" of confidence in the medium.

That percentage was the lowest since the question was first asked in 1993, worse than that in 2012 when a combined 21 percent said they had either a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in television news.

When the annual question was first posed in 1993, President Bill Clinton's first year in office, 46 percent said they had either a great deal or quite a lot of confidence. Through the rest of his administration and his finding of contempt of court for lying under oath, through the Bush administration and its wars and the beginning of the financial crisis, and then through the Obama years and its myriad of scandals, the positive percentage has fallen by more than half.

What You Didn't Read

An Associated Press news story, carried by the Times Free Press last week, fawned over the fact four former Environmental Protection Agency chiefs paid lip service to the dangers of climate change during a Senate hearing to which they were invited by Democrats to testify about the Obama administration's energy policies.

What the story didn't say was what happened when the four were asked by Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., if they thought President Obama was correct when he said in 2012 that the "temperature around the globe is increasing faster than was predicted, even 10 years ago," and then added in 2013, "We also know that the climate is warming faster than anybody anticipated five or 10 years ago."

"So, I would ask each of our former administrators if any of you agree that that's an accurate statement on the climate," Sessions said. "So if you do, raise your hand."

None of the four did.

"Thank you," said Sessions. "The record will reflect no one raised their hand."

Who's Suppressing The Vote?

Delray Beach, Fla., resident Bob Hiering received an interesting piece of mail not long before the 2012 presidential election. Labeled with the logos of the supervisor of elections of Palm Beach County, the letter questioned his citizenship and ability to vote. It, further, called for him to provide personal information to elections officials or be disqualified from voting. The most curious aspect of the seemingly official mail was that it was postmarked from Seattle.

Hiering turned over the letter to authorities, but he wasn't alone. Some 200 Florida residents, all with ties to the Republican Party, got a similar letter. In time, state and federal agencies got involved.

Recently, James Webb Baker Jr. of Seattle pleaded guilty to identification fraud and intimidation of voters in the matter after admitting to federal investigators he was behind it. He faces a maximum of six years in prison and up to $350,000 in fines.

He told officials he wanted to intimidate and interfere with GOP recipients' right to vote.

While Baker was found out, Hiering wondered how many got letters and just didn't fool with voting. They wouldn't have changed an Obama win to a Romney win, but it does make you wonder how many other such shenanigans are lurking out there.

And that story about the EPA chiefs vote on a specific question refutes climate change?

timbo said...

lkeithlu....No, but it is an indication that they know something they are not telling. They know that the "data" has been debunked time after time. They know that the temperature increases, or lack thereof, are not following the computer models that they themselves built. They know that no matter what the US does, if China and India do nothing, we will only hurt our economy for nothing.

Within 5 years, climate change hysteria will subside because we won't see any ill effects. When it does, you and the rest of the fanatics will forget conveniently that they ever thought it was true and will be off chasing some other BS down a rabbit trail.

Not sure how you derived all that from the story. It's a bit of a stretch to get from "temp increases were not as fast as predicted" to "it isn't happening".

Ikeithlu....These are normal changes associated with global weather patterns that have been changing for billions of years.

There is no such thing as man-made climate change. It is arrogant of us to think that our small selves can control nature.

Timboner is arrogant in his ignorance. Nothing he has said is factual or remotely true.

These are not normal changes associated with global weather patterns.

There absolutely is man-made climate change.

"Our small selves" have a huge impact on nature.

There is no disputing any of that. The scientific community, the experimentation, the data, the logic, the science all prove it. Again, nothing said by Timboner is supported by science or fact.

Timbo - CO2 in the air retains heat. You can do a simple experiment at home to prove this to yourself if you don't trust the scientific community. "our little selves" are putting 9.7 billion metric tonnes of carbon per year into the atmosphere - that's BILLION with a B. If you don't think that is having an effect on the global climate you have your head up your arse.

Plato...

9.700 billion metric tonnes per year is a drop in the bucket. The atmosphere is 5.15 X 10 to the 18th kg in size. That CO2 you mentioned can be eliminated in normal photosynthesis of plants. Surface plants account for eliminating 46 times that amount. Here is an article in "Postdam Institute for Climate Impact Research"

It reads" 07/06/2010 - Terrestrial ecosystems draw about 123 billion tonnes of carbon (450 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide, CO2) from the atmosphere each year. Based on worldwide local measurements and data-driven model simulations, an international team of researchers led by Christian Beer of the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry in Jena has for the first time provided an observation-based estimate of the largest global flux of carbon between land and atmosphere and of its climate dependencies."

Furthermore, ocean plants can absorb many times more CO2 than the surface plants. It you look at the times in history that CO2 was much higher than now, the plant production was greatly enhanced to balance the increase in CO2. The earth will do the same this time.

Your cherry picked numbers were taken out of context to the overall system capabilities to adjust to this minor addition of CO2 from human activity.

This has been exaggerated due to economic, not scientific, information. Where there is money, there will be fraud.

Ki...the earth is a huge system..it can't be affected by human activity by itself. If it is moving, for any reason, there is nothing we can do about it.

If it makes you feel better, quit breathing, you are contributing to the over-all CO2 levels. If liberals made that sacrifice, the problem would disappear. Teach us mean old conservatives a lesson.

Timbo: Thank you Neal Degrasse Tyson. You should get your own show and call it "Cosmos: It's Where My Head's At." Tell me where you got your physicist's degree.

First of all if you want to discuss climatology you should learn how to spell it.

Second as usual, you're wrong. Here is a list of some of more popular universities that offer degrees in climatology:

1 University of Miami 2 Iowa State University 3 University of Utah 4 University of South Alabama 5 University of Oklahoma Norman Campus 6 Central Michigan University 7 Saint Cloud State University 8 Western Illinois University

Timbo doesn't understand the Carbon Cycle or the fact that plants give off about half of the CO2 they absorb during their lifetimes. Most plants absorb CO2 during the daytime for photosynthesis and give off CO2 at night as a byproduct of photosynthesis. Anyone that has an scientific background should know this. It is quite obvious that Timbo's so-called "chemistry degree" isn't all it's cracked up to be.

CO2 is a greenhouse gas and is important in the atmosphere. Plants DO NOT absorb all CO2. If they did, we'd all die. CO2 is vital to the life cycle. Land plants only absorb around 20-25% of CO2 in the atmosphere according to current estimations.

Plants will increase their growth due to CO2 increases in the atmosphere, but there are physical limits to plant growth. They cannot just grow exponentially. Plants are growing to absorb more CO2, but it is nowhere near enough.

These statements are patently false:

"It you look at the times in history that CO2 was much higher than now, the plant production was greatly enhanced to balance the increase in CO2. The earth will do the same this time."

Human activity is not creating a "minor addition" of CO2. Human activity has increased atmospheric CO2 to around 400 part per million. To give you some context, the last time atmospheric CO2 was that high, humans didn't exist.

Literally, nothing Timbo is regurgitating is based on science. He does not even understand basic facts about the carbon cycle, photosynthesis, or plant growth. He is a known liar with very little, if any, science background, yet he makes false claims claims about having "read the data". He knows he hasn't read the data. I'd be surprised if he's ever read a science book. Everything Timbo is parroting is bunk pseudoscience.

The entire scientific community, scientific facts, logic, the scientific data and experimentation prove Timbo wrong. Timbo is a Right WingNut propagandist and scientifically illiterate liar that has no real opinion outside of the one Rush Limbaugh, Alex Jones, and Fox News tell him to have. Timbo is not a scientist and has no "chemistry degree". These are the facts.

Timboner,

You can't forget what you never knew, jackass. Your ignorance is well established here. Your idiocy is apparent in every one of your posts. It is quite obvious you know very little, if anything, about any branch of science. Not only do you have no clue what you're talking about, but you resort to lying about your own credentials in an attempt to pass your misinformation off as fact.

Calling you an idiot would be unfair and insulting to idiots. You are much worse than that, you pitiful loser. You don't even know the most basic facts about the Carbon Cycle, yet you claim to have a degree in chemistry and know "science". You sure as hell don't show it from the ignorant drivel you post on a daily basis.

Easy123...I would call you names, but the way you act, no one takes you seriously anyway.

I did not say that ALL CO2 was absorbed by plants. I stated how much is absorbed and how much has been added. The problem is, even when I use a liberal, global warming web site, you still go off in never, never land.

You have no scientific background whatsoever to even discuss this subject intelligently. You are so bitter and backward I sometimes wonder how anyone could be as screwed up as you are. You are a product of how liberal propaganda can brainwash the weak minded. Add your psychotic tendencies and I now see how a Stalin or Pol Pot can rise up.

Easy123....you are basically a lunatic.

Timboner,

"Easy123...I would call you names, but the way you act, no one takes you seriously anyway."

Keep telling yourself that. If you say it enough, maybe you'll convince yourself.

"I did not say that ALL CO2 was absorbed by plants. I stated how much is absorbed and how much has been added. The problem is, even when I use a liberal, global warming web site, you still go off in never, never land."

You implied it. You failed to mention the fact that the all the CO2 that is used by plants doesn't stay "absorbed". I suspect you didn't even know plants give off CO2 as a by-product of photosynthesis. It's quite clear you have a very limited understanding of even the most simple aspects of biology and botany.

There is not a time where you are not in Never-Neverland. You'd never know it though. Your head is too firmly planted inside your own anus.

"You have no scientific background whatsoever to even discuss this subject intelligently."

I have an extensive background in science. I could debate you on any subject related to science and make you look like a fool. I'll be here anytime to show just how scientifically illiterate you truly are. It's not like you gave any semblance of a rebuttal after my last debunking of your bullsh!t. It's quite obvious you aren't a "chemist", nor do you have anything close to a "degree in chemistry".

You're the one with no scientific background and an aversion to intelligent discussion. That much is exceedingly clear.

Let me fix your projections:

You are so bitter and backward I sometimes wonder how anyone could be as screwed up as you are. You are a product of how Right WingNut propaganda can brainwash the weak minded. Add your psychotic tendencies and I now see how a Stalin or Pol Pot can rise up.

All fixed. Strange how your projections are so spot on.

"Easy123....you are basically a lunatic."

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. You have nothing. You never have and you never will. You are, basically, an ignorant liar. That is Timboner Price in a nutshell.
