Kennedy installed as Medical Society president

Dr. J. Woody Kennedy has been installed as 2014 president of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Medical Society. Dr. Joseph (Gene) Huffstutter was named president-elect.

Kennedy is a board-certified plastic surgeon at The Plastic Surgery Group in Chattanooga. Huffstutter, a rheumatologist with Arthritis Associates, will become president of the Medical Society in 2015. Dr. Wayne Scott, an internist with Galen Medical Group, is secretary-treasurer.

Joining the Medical Society board for first terms are Dr. Vijaya Appareddy, Dr. Chris Chase, Dr. Karin Covi and Dr. Shauna Lorenzo-Rivero


Berry yearbook staff wins awards

Student staff of the 2013 Berry College yearbook, Cabin Log, earned two individual, national awards for yearbook journalism excellence in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association's 31st Gold Circle Awards Contest. More than 4,270 entries were submitted by students across the United States to the competition,

Kirstie Broadwell, editor-in-chief of the Cabin Log, received a Certificate of Merit in the Feature Presentation category for the design of "Dancing the Night Away." The layout highlighted the Berry College dance troupe and its spring performances.

Also receiving a Certificate of Merit was alumnus Matt Stokes, former athletics editor of the Cabin Log, in the Sports Reporting category for "Going, Going, Gone." That story that outlined the softball team's quest for the Southern Athletic Association championship.

Certificates of merit are the equivalent of honorable mention in a category, according to a Berry news release.


Regents' grants for Chattanooga State faculty

Several faculty members of Chattanooga State Community College were recently notified that their courses had been selected for a Tennessee Board of Regents Revitalization Grant.

The courses target high enrollment gateway classes and are submitted through a collaborative effort between two teams of faculty, who bundle at least two courses within an institution. Courses that involve multiple institutions also are encouraged.

The following courses and teams were recognized:

• Psychology 1030, John Haworth, team leader; Robin Popp, Dr. Kathy Trotter, Dr. Lindsay Holland and Dr. Emily Dunlap

• Biology 2010, Dr. Evelyn Mobley, team leader; Dr. Karen Eastman and Dr. Michael Sliman.

• English 1010 and 0810, Dr. Anna Harrington, team leader; Brittney Davidson and Jennifer Ontog.

• Reading 0810, Dr. Anna Harrington, team leader; and Brittney Davidson.

• Math 1530, Aaron Willmon, team leader; Catherine Nightingale and Dr. Azar Raiszadeh.

• English 1010, Dr. DeLara Stephens, team leader; and Dr. Amanda Hyberger.

• English 1020, Ann Nicodemi, team leader; and Josh Tucker.
