MEIGS, Ga. - Authorities in south Georgia say a child has been killed in an early morning house fire.

State Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens says 9-year-old Jobris Copeland was killed in a fire early Sunday morning in Meigs, about 45 45 miles south of Albany.

Hudgens says the boy's grandmother, 56-year-old Queen Copeland, was hospitalized with burns and smoke inhalation. Hudgens says four other people escaped the fire without injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and Hudgens says the family's home was destroyed in the blaze.
