photo Matthew Reed secures a wooden opening at Chicken Salad Chick on Market Street.

Project: Chicken Salad Chick.

Owner: Josh Patton.

Location: 629 Market St.

Architect: M.H.P. Architect, Nashville.

Square footage: 3,980 square feet.

Contractor: Bill Morton; Howard Morton Construction.

Scope: The Chattanooga restaurant is the company's Tennessee debut. There are 17 locations.

History: The chain began in Auburn, Ala., in 2008 with Stacy Brown's quest to find the perfect chicken salad sandwich. Brown learned that selling from her kitchen is against the law. After being shut down by the health department, Brown solicited the business expertise of her future husband and fellow founder, Kevin Brown.Together, they opened a small takeout restaurant which quickly developed a following and the need for additional locations. The Chicken Salad Chick concept offers customers a "custom-fit" chicken salad experience, with a choice of 15 flavors, along with gourmet soups, side salads and fresh-baked desserts.

Future: A second location in East Brainerd is expected to open this summer.

Timeline: Construction started in December. Opening date is April 1.
