65 Roses walk, run set April 12
CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Cleveland and Lee University will hold the annual 65 Roses 5K Run and Great Strides Walk on April 12.
According to a news release, the event has raised $631,658 over the past 13 years for research leading to a cure of cystic fibrosis, a chronic disease affecting the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States.
Early registration is $30 for the race and $12 for the 1K Fun Run; registration on race day will be $35 and $15 for the Fun Run. Events begin with a pasta dinner on April 11 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door. The race will begin at 8:30 a.m. April 12 and the Fun Run at 9:45 a.m. The Great Strides walk starts at 10 a.m.

Easter egg hunts planned for parks
ATLANTA — State parks in Chatsworth and Summerville, Ga., are among the parks and historic sites hosting Easter egg hunts in April, according to a news release.
Fort Mountain State Park in Chatsworth plans a glow-in-the-dark egg hunt at 8:30 a.m. April 12. Kids will ride a wagon to the site. Space is limited, and registration is required at www.friendsoffortmountain.com. Cabins and campsites available. $5 parking. 706-422-1932.
The Earth Day and Spring EGGtravanganza at James H. "Sloppy" Floyd State Park in Summerville is set for 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. April 19. Programs include guided hikes, recycled crafts and wildlife presentations, plus the egg hunt in the afternoon. The evening will feature a campfire; kids and parents alike are urged to bring their best skits, songs and, of course, marshmallows. Parking will be $5. For more information call 706-857-0826.

Couple shot lying in bed
DECATUR, Ala. — Police in Decatur say a man and woman are out of the hospital after both were accidentally shot while lying in bed.
Detective Joshua Fisher told the Decatur Daily that a 41-year-old woman and her 24-year-old boyfriend were lying in bed Sunday morning when he decided to clean his gun. The gun discharged, hitting him in his left hand and the woman in her right leg.
Both were treated at Decatur Morgan Hospital and later released.
Children's museum gets national honor
MEMPHIS — The Children's Museum of Memphis is being recognized nationally.
The Commercial Appeal reports the museum has been accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, the Washington-based advocacy organization and watchdog group that develops standards for the country's estimated 17,500 museums, science centers, historic sites, aquariums and so on.
A private nonprofit organization, the museum depends entirely on admissions fees and donations to cover an annual budget of about $2.4 million.
