There are three tournaments on the first weekend of Tennessee high school baseball, and at least 13 teams will be hosting games in McMinn Central's Playing for a (cancer) Cure tournament, the Scenic City Classic and the South Pittsburg Invitational.

The Playing for a Cure tournament and the Scenic City Classic start Wednesday, and the South Pittsburg tournament starts Thursday. Only one of the three will have a championship game, and that will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday at South Pittsburg. All of the events are scheduled to end Saturday.

Teams that will host games during the four days are McMinn Central, McMinn County, Walker Valley, Polk County, Bradley Central, McCallie, Baylor, Boyd-Buchanan, Northwest Whitfield, Grundy County, Lookout Valley, South Pittsburg and Sequatchie County.

Softball at Meigs

Meigs County will be hosting the Tiger Classic softball tournament this weekend in Dayton at the Market Street Complex.

Fifteen teams are in the competition, which begins Friday with four pool-play games at 4 p.m. Pool play resumes Saturday at 10 a.m.

Based on pool-play records, teams will be placed into Orange and Black divisions for single-elimination play with the Orange division being for highest-finishing teams. Single-elimination is set to start at 2 p.m. Saturday. Championship games are scheduled to begin at 5.

"We have some that have never been in it before," Meigs County coach Jeff Davis said. "We've got South Doyle and Carter out of Knoxville and Scottsboro out of Alabama. Coalfield has been to the state tournament four out of the last five years in Class A. I think everybody can play a little bit. In years past we've had some that weren't very good, but I don't think we have that this year."
