Student found dead in dorm at University of South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. - Authorities are investigating after a student was found dead in his dorm room at the University of South Alabama.

School officials say Christopher Elan Thomas, who was from Dothan, was found by campus police shortly before 7 a.m. Saturday.

University spokesman Bob Lowry said in a statement that campus police began life-saving procedures. WALA-TV reports that Mobile Fire-Rescue also responded to the scene and tried to resuscitate Thomas, but those efforts were not successful.

Lowry said that foul play is not suspected, and that the cause of death will be determined by the Mobile County Coroner's Office.

WKRG-TV reports that Thomas was a political science major and was involved with Jaguar Productions, the student activities board at the university.

Few other details were available Saturday afternoon.
