Police Briefs: Police investigate Willow shooting

Police investigate Willow shooting

Chattanooga police officers responded to a local hospital about 4 a.m. Thursday after learning a person had been shot.

Officers talked with Orlandas Gay, 25, who said he was walking on North Willow Street when a silver car drove past him and started shooting, according to a news release.

Gay refused to give officers any more information. He told them he did not wish to talk to police.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to his left calf. He was treated for the nonlife-threating injury, the news release stated.

This is not the first time Gay has suffered a gunshot wound. In June 2011, he was shot near an apartment at 5241 Dorris St.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Chattanooga Police Department at 423-698-2525 or Crime Stoppers at (423) 698-3333.

City plans 3 new traffic cameras

The city will activate three new photo speed reduction units Monday at the following locations: 1100 block of Mountain Creek Road, 4600 block of Norcross Road and 200 block of Germantown Road.

The locations were selected because of their high level of speeding and accident rates.

The goal of the speed reduction initiative is to reduce accidents and improve the safety of streets by encouraging safer driving speeds. Photo enforcement revenues fund traffic safety programs such as the City of Chattanooga Drivers Education Program.

More information regarding speed reduction and the Drivers Education Program can be found at chattanooga.gov/transportation.
