Use spring to change habits and other letters to the editors

Use spring to change habits

After several months of crippling snowstorms and flooding, I really look forward to spring weather, green grass and flowers in bloom. The advent of spring is also a great opportunity to turn over a new leaf on our dietary and exercise habits. In fact, I've been told hundreds of communities celebrate the advent of spring with something called the Great American Meatout. Local health advocates host educational events, where they ask visitors to get a fresh start with a healthy diet of vegetables, fresh fruits, legumes and whole grains. For those who need a little encouragement, their website provides useful information and a chance to pledge a healthy diet for one day or more.

Teachers and overtime

In response to Obama's great idea about paid overtime for salaried workers, have you any idea what would be left undone in elementary schools if a buzzer rang daily at 3:30 p.m. and all teachers were forced to leave the building?

Eagerly awaiting improvements

I truly hope when this press revamp is completed that the ink will not smear and rub off on your hands and that the Life section will be back to the normal size so that the puzzles will have enough space to fill in the letters more easily like they used to be (and the print will not be erased if we have to make an erasure). I have been a subscriber for many years and look forward to reading the paper each morning.

Help student study Tennessee

I am a fifth-grader at Napa Valley Language Academy in Napa, Calif. The reason I am writing is that my class is doing state reports and I have chosen your magnificent state, Tennessee. I would really like it if you posted my letter in your newspaper so that I can get all the help I need for my report. What I need from you or your readers are pamphlets, postcards, souvenirs or anything else that would be useful. I will be writing about your state's agriculture, history, economy, famous people, events, historical figures and national parks. I will also be writing an oral report, poster and Microsoft PowerPoint presentation. Thank you for your support and help in making me a great researcher of your astounding state.
