about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

What inspired this? Could it be that botched execution in which the criminal died, but the chemicals didn't work according to plan and he died painfully? I forgot the guys name.

Well, nobody wants to see anyone suffer, I don't. But the woman he murdered suffered in a horrific way. Her last moments were a living hell. What that murderer went through was a picnic compared to what he did to that innocent girl.

Liberals contend it is not a crime to kill the unborn and object to killing those killing another human at any point in life. Conservatives support killing anyone that kills another person whether it is before or after birth. Why would taking the life of the person killing or responsible for killing another human in the same manner they used to kill another human be considered cruel?

Execution should be avoided when the evidence is circumstantial and no other evidence supports a conviction. Why should people like Sirhan and Manson still be alive and costing tax money?

liberals love to quote the Bible except when they don't. Clay Bennett is an atheist, straight up. Just ask him. Good point on Gosnell and abortion.

Liberals talk about murder but in a world devoid of absolutes, God, who should care how one piece of carbon clangs against another ? Moral inconsistency is blarringly evident in unbelievers like Bennett--who is a mass of contradiction and error. Sad the man who try's to play God, condemning this, not that. Ignorance of Scripture is tantamount in people like Bennett. He hates it and at the same time attempts to use it against those he hates. He's a fool, plain and simple.

I figured out long ago that Mr. Bennett was an Atheist.

Many people don't realize that someone can be a practicing Atheist while not specifically claiming they are an Atheist.

If you live a life contrary to the word of God then you are a practicing Atheist even if you claim to believe in God.

These same practicing Atheists just have a philosophical god of their own making.

These are the ones who don't want their friends and relatives to know they don't believe in the true God of Scripture.

Now, if one says he believes in God but doesn't believe in the God of the Bible, then he obviously believes in a god of his own making.

I always knew Christians were capable of violence. Todays commentary so far, proves it.

But of course some believe that God commands the Death Penalty.

God was the worlds first mass murderer and still holds the record for the most innocent victims, IF the Bible is reflective of any actual historical event that ever took place.

The commandment "Thou shall not kill" is a quotation directly from God, unlike the vast majority of what is read in the Bible, which was written by mere mortal men.

Furthermore, the death penalty is nothing more than revenge killing. It does not dissuade the crimes it "punishes," and only burdens the one who can't forgive sin.

Connie, you haven't told anyone anything that makes a lick of sense.

Your definition of an Atheist and one who believes in a false God, is anyone who does not practice or believe in your brand of Christianity.

That's it. You've never justified challenges about what can be read in the Bible, and apparently God isn't providing you the proper responses to offer to those challenges.

"Thou shall not kill" is a very simple statement which can be read and it is a commandment attributed to the one and only God.

It directly contradicts the quotation of scripture you offered a while ago, which is no surprise to myself and many others.

Why?

Because most people are keenly aware that the Bible is a work that is filled with imperfections, contradictions, and a book that raises far more questions than it answers.

Christianity, as a religion, is not even mentioned but in three obscure passages in the New Testament. Three!!

And there are those who want to claim that Christianity is the chosen religion, based on the New Testament? How can that be?

Religion is responsible for more division among people, than it has ever been responsible for creating congregations.

Less people than ever are practicing or participating in organized religion.

Hmm – a ”Practicing Atheist.” I have to admit I really like that slogan. It’s a wonderfully catchy oxymoron.

As there is no faith in atheism, the underlying logic behind the phrase ‘practicing atheism’ is defective.

Thus: You can't be a practicing atheist, because there’s nothing to practice. One no more ‘practices’ atheism any more than one would practice ‘Santa Clausism’. [Although to tell the truth, I practice that every year with my grandchildren.] But if they did, I'm imagining some sort of Atheist Church where they all gather every Sunday, then stand around looking puzzled and wondering "What did we come here for?"

Regarding the term ‘practicing’; at what point do practicing Christians become qualified Christians?

By maintaining and strengthening a rational and open mind and not letting it become clouded by mystical superstition and weird ceremonies works best for me. So far I have never heard a good argument for belief in the existence of god.

IF capital punishment is to be meted out, our current practices (its aim being ‘civilized’ and causing the least pain) is faulty. Although it sounds gruesome, the quickest and least painful methods are guillotine or a shot to the head. Both are instantaneous. Messy yes, but instantaneous.

May 2, 2014 at 11:12 a.m.

I don't believe in capital punishment. Rotting in prison to me is worse, and perfectly fine. If you're ok with abortion, then it's illogical and hypocritical to be for capital punishment, and vice versa. Many libs scream and protest about capital punishment when it's the law, and demand that it be changed, but abortion is a law that's somehow morphed into a right. "How can it be ignorance when all you have to do is Google "how to be a Christian" or "what are the essential Christian doctrines"..."

Are these "Christian doctrines" you write so lovingly about contained within the confines of the Bible? If so, will you be so kind as to point me to them?

"Surely sometime in you life you have been exposed to some of the essential doctrines of Christianity."

You betcha, and then an amazing thing happened. I grew a brain.

"In fact, you have acknowledged that you been exposed to the Trinity of the Godhead but you have rejected it."

Yes I do and you know why? Because the Bible does not support it.

"You cannot be a Christian and reject Christian doctrine."

I sure can, if I reject false doctrine. For all the hype you heap about the Bible being the word of God, You'd think God would have written or inspired one to write about him having taken a sabbatical for 33 years or so to go down to Earth and inhabit the body of his Son.

Jesus is the Son of God. He was not God and the Bible clearly supports it.

"So simple."

If it were so simple, you'd have all the relevant scripture to refute me.

Where is it?

I'd like to thank conservative for enlightening me. I've discovered I'm not a "practicing atheist." I'm a professional!

I wonder if Satan has deceived conservative as the bible clearly states can happen. Satan wins when he convinces people they are doing the "right thing" and having them believe they are good Christians. It is similar to what politicians do by promising people they are acting in their best interest and everything will be alright if we just trust them.

Mr. Anthony Provancher

I felt certain you had been exposed to the truth and ignored it all along.

I also have been confident that you were lying and deceiving others for quite some time.

Thank you for finally coming out.

BTW, Accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is Christianity.

The doctrines of Christianity come from God's word, the word that you constantly reject.

You have denied the Incarnation. Jesus was God in the flesh come to redeem sinful man and declare His righteousness.

You are an anti Christ. You can look it up.

I am done with communicating with you.

I will just post your many blasphemies to warn others.

It will be impossible for you to deceive anyone who truly wants to know the truth.

Anyone who can't figure out your standing before God is just as lost as you and that is tragic.

I do hope you will eventually repent.

Well my nemesis, what you feel doesn't mean squat.

"I also have been confident that you were lying and deceiving others for quite some time."

Sir, I have been guilty of dispensing facts...facts which you frustratingly cannot refute.

"Thank you for finally coming out."

Dude...I'm straight.

"BTW, Accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is Christianity."

And that I have done.

"The doctrines of Christianity come from God's word, the word that you constantly reject."

And yet, isn't it funny that you cannot offer one verse of scripture from "God's word" to refute one of my quotations?

"You have denied the Incarnation. Jesus was God in the flesh come to redeem sinful man and declare His righteousness."

And where EXACTLY is it within the New Testament that one can read proof of this?

"You are an anti Christ. You can look it up."

Read some of your own stuff to discover who is an Anti-Christ.

"I am done with communicating with you."

Of course you are. It must be utterly frustrating to come to the realization that "God's word" is a totally false premise that you are totally ill-equipped to deal with.

"I will just post your many blasphemies to warn others."

Do you ever ask yourself, "What Would Jesus Do, or does that God complex you are suffering from rule the day?

"It will be impossible for you to deceive anyone who truly wants to know the truth."

It's about time for another banning anyway. I guess you're next.

"Anyone who can't figure out your standing before God is just as lost as you and that is tragic."

If you had half a brain, you'd leave that between myself and God. I'm quite sure he hasn't requested your assistance.

"I do hope you will eventually repent."

Clearly, you've got some deep seated issues to deal with.

I hope you find some help before you self-destruct.
