Pam McNutt Fleenor has taken the lead in the race for an open chancellor seat in Hamilton County Chancery Court Part 1.

Fleenor had received 3,883 votes shortly after polls closed today while opponent Joe Manuel had 1,680.

Fleenor, 54, began practicing law in 1986 and worked in areas such as personal injury, civil rights violations, employment defense, breach of contract and complex commercial litigation.

Manuel, 60, has practiced law since 1978. His work includes hospital and products liability, condemnation, business and land, personal injury, workers compensation and aviation cases.

The winning candidate will replace Chancellor Frank Brown III, who announced last year that he would not seek another term.

Both candidates have sat as special judge in General Sessions Court, and this is the first political campaign for both.

Jeffrey M. Atherton, who is the incumbent chancellor in Hamilton County Chancery Court Part 2, is running unopposed in this year's election.
