Former University of Tennessee at Chattanooga golfer Jonathan Hodge advanced through U.S. Open local qualifying on Monday as the medalist with a 7-under 65 in Greensboro, N.C. But no Chattanooga area golfer advanced from Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville on Wednesday. Former Baylor School golfer Luke List shot a 4-under 68 and would have been in a playoff for the last two spots. But he had departed for home and couldn't return in time to compete. Area golfers Bryce Ledford, Steven Fox and Ryan Thornton shot 3-under 69s and missed the playoff by one stroke. University of Tennessee golfer Jack Smith earned medalist honors with a 64. David Holmes of Knoxville shot 65, fellow Knoxville residents Eric Axley and Jason Gandy advanced with 67s. Scott Strohmeyer earned the last spot leaving Jacob Mondy of Virginia as the first alternate and former Rhea County golfer Hunter Green as the second alternate.
