UT Vols sign guard Detrick Mostella

KNOXVILLE -- Tennessee's revamped basketball signing class grew again today.

And this addition is likely to raise an eyebrow or two across the country.

The Volunteers announced the signing of guard Detrick Mostella, a former Oklahoma State signee who's ranked the No. 44 overall player in the 2014 class by 247sports.com, on Thursday.

A 6-foot-3, 170-pound combo guard from Alabama, Mostella, who plans to enroll this summer, inked with the Cowboys last year as the 53rd-ranked player in the nation according to Rivals.com, but he asked out of his National Letter of Intent and appeared headed to Pittsburgh before enrolling at Notre Dame Preparatory School in Massachusetts.

"Detrick is an explosive athlete who can make plays off the dribble and create opportunities for his teammates," new Tennessee coach Donnie Tyndall said in the program's release. "He is another versatile, long, athletic perimeter player who fits perfectly in our system and style of play. We're very excited to add this high character young man to our Tennessee basketball family."

After starring at Austin High School in Decatur outside of Huntsville, Mostella transferred to the La Lumiere School in Florida before ending up at the Fitchburg prep school.

After the four-man signing class assembled by Cuonzo Martin, Tyndall's predecessor who's now the coach at California, all were granted releases from their letters of intent, Tyndall quickly has replenished it.

The Vols signed Hargrave Military Academy forward Jabari McGhee late last week and added Kevin Punter, a junior college All-American guard and former Missouri commitment, to the class on Monday.
