Thanks from Fairbanks and other letters to the editors

Thanks from Fairbanks

I would like to thank all the citizens of District 1 who took time out of their busy schedule to come out and vote. For those who put your trust in me with your vote, I am truly grateful. Serving the people of this district is an awesome responsibility that I won't take lightly. For the many family members and friends who worked tirelessly for the past four months, you have been a blessing. Marty and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Repeal Obamacare

A recent two-sided Perspective question about fixing the health care law was strange. A few points, if I may:

1. Obama and congressional Democrats touted this 2,000-plus page bill as a "comprehensive solution" to the problem of people who had no insurance. They were unwilling to consider anything less than this ungainly monstrosity.

2. The bill was passed by Democrats, without a single Republican vote, without giving Republicans the opportunity to offer amendments, only because they had the votes at the time. Taking the time necessary to discuss and refine the bill might have moved them beyond that two-year window of opportunity. The Democrat Party is responsible for all of the problems coming from this bill.

3. As Nancy Pelosi said, "We have to pass this bill to see what's in it." Not only did they not take the time to get it right, they didn't even bother to read it before voting.

4. As is typical of other legislation that makes life more difficult for us average citizens, government leaders not only exempted themselves from this bill, they force us to pay for their own "Cadillac" coverage. This mess needs to be repealed.

Left page undeserving

So the left-hand page has received a first-place award for editorial writing. This is the same journalist who wrote that several people deserved "metals" in an early effort. (Anyone with a double digit IQ knows that "medals" would have been correct.) The award must have been given simply for being the liberal editor, certainly not for writing. Evidently a ham sandwich could have won the award as long as it appeared on the left-wing page.
