Sports are boring in the summer so I don't blame you for the 5-at-10 kind of sucking lately. Sure the Braves are OK but this is so slow.

What would be the best thing to happen to make sports interesting until football gets here.

Thanks for not blaming us. We think. Sometimes we feel like a $100.

In truth, the summer's the summer, and while we'll post a quick 5-at-10 on Memorial Day - much to the chagrin of the Mrs. 5-at-10 - there's not a lot hot-button topics happening.

Here are three things not involving real scandal, the real Peyton Manning getting arrested or the really creepy Donald Sterling that could pick up the phones on Press Row and the 5-at-10 banter:

1) Tiger Woods wins the U.S. Open. Or gags it. But we're staring at a summer without the biggest sports star in an individual sport, and means crickets. Who's the best golfer playing right now? Exactly.

2) LeBron and the Heatles gag in the finals. Face, James' excellence has become boring and his critics are more passionate than his fans - especially those Jordan lovers who want to see LBJ fail to protect Jordan's legacy. A Game 6 or 7 meltdown would fuel a lot of debate.

3) Lance Armstrong tries to qualify for the Tour de France. This would melt the interweb.

UT may think their birthright is 3rd in the roundball SEC, but isn't a .500 league season more likely than third place with Donnie Knoxville's roster of transfers from Ooh-eee Poo-eee and such like schools?

There are real concerns about chemistry for Donnie Knoxville's first collection of Vols. We feel sure this will come up when we talk to him today on Press Row around 3:45.

Transfers and kids picking UT over Southern Miss hardly will give the Vols the guns to win in Rupp or in Gainesville. But after the Martin mass exodus, Donnie Tyndall was close to asking Ollie to dress out or be forced to say his team is on the floor with four.

Out of that desperation comes opportunity for guys, and if Josh Richardson continues his improvement, this will not be a bad roster against the majority of the SEC. Heck, his roster is at least as good if not better than half the league's.

We certainly see your point about .500 in the league as opposed to chasing down the Cats or the Gators and that's fair. But the divide after the two top dogs in the SEC is staggering, and in that thought, these Vols could easily challenge for third in this league.

I have been listening to you and David on Press Row since the beginning and now I read the 5@10. I've been trying to come up with a question for the mailbag.

Donald Sterling is dumb. Horse Racing breathing strips don't make much sense.

But then Mark Cuban comes out and says what he says and starts making up a bunch noise. Why did just restart all the junk about Sterling and do you think the league will suspend Cuban for his talks about prejuidice?

The only thing Cuban has apologized for is "hoodie" reference and any implication that may have had on the family of Trayvon Martin.

In our view, Cuban has nothing to apologize for. He offered a well-thought view that, when read in context, is pretty benign. Sure, the pop quotes about "we're all prejudiced" catches attention and generates web clicks, but that's his view.

You can agree or disagree, but we believe our society should welcome different points of discussion.

So be it. Agree or disagree, but when someone speaks with thought and honest and without malice or hatred, that opinion should be heard and debated not punished or chastised. We have become a culture where the safe play is to not say anything publicly and that stifles debate and discussion.

And when the discourse is shut down we all lose.

Cuban's thoughts and views were his. He had some good points and he said some things we do not necessarily agree with, but that's an open dialogue should be. We ain't promising you nothing extra. We're just giving you life and you're giving us life. And we're saying that men can live together without butchering one another.

We'd be stunned if he is punished - and judging by his tone, he certainly sounds as if he is trying to soften the culture to vote for Sterling to keep the Clippers, no?

When you and David were talking about sports you think would be the hardest to try and I got to admit I'd pay to see you try to pole vault.

I tried to call in but the phones were full for most of the final hour.

What were the four on your Rushmore? Mine are bull riding, motorcross, sky diving and the luge.

Thanks for the kind words and for listening. And it would cost you a pretty penny or three to see this 218-pound, 6-foot-4 43-year-old to give pole vaulting a shot.

And since we have already crossed riding a bull off our list - got pretty well Co-Colaed back in our Auburn days and lasted less than 2 seconds on the back of a bull; God Bless rodeo clowns - and we're not sure sky-diving is a sport, ours are a little different.

We can see the motorcross thing for sure, and there's no way we'd get on one of those things, even if our kids wanted to. Sure we have a sentimental weakness for our children and we spoil them, as you can see. They talk when they should listen.

We'll put ski jumping there, and we'll go skeleton rather than luge because you are face-first in the skeleton, which may have gotten it's name because the first 100 people that did it all that was left were bones. Finally, we could see people putting MMA or even boxing down - and if you are going against a trained pro, well that's a death-wish - but we'll go open-water swimming. Sharks... no thanks.
