Worker charged in restaurant theft
HENAGAR, Ala. - A woman who worked at Jack's Restaurant in Henagar has been charged in the theft of more than $4,000 from the business.
Lindy Ladd Brennen, 40, of Stevenson, Ala., was charged with first-degree theft of property and booked into the DeKalb County Detention Center on a $15,000 bond, according to a news release from Sheriff Jimmy Harris.
The release said the restaurant's manager reported the theft May 15 and evidence led investigators to Brennen. The district attorney's office issued a warrant for her arrest, and she was taken into custody Thursday in Scottsboro, Ala.
"I'm glad our officers and the Henagar Police Department were able to work this case so quickly," Harris said in the release. "The staff of Jack's was great in helping get evidence to help close this case."
Three arrested in meth ring bust
WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga. - A Whitfield County, Ga., man was arrested Thursday with about four pounds of methamphetamine after a lengthy investigation of drug trafficking in the area, according to the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office.
Eduardo Zubio Martinez Jr., known as "Klown Martinez," 34, was taken into custody at his home on Bass McHan Drive and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration to be charged federally, a news release states.
The narcotics unit of the sheriff's office had received information that Martinez was responsible for distributing large amounts of methamphetamine in the area. An investigation revealed Martinez was a party to a network of Mexican drug cartels in the Atlanta area, authorities said.
During the investigation officers made a covert meth purchase from the suspect.
On Thursday sheriff's office investigators searched Martinez's home and seized about four pounds of methamphetamine, digital scales and more than $34,000 in cash. Also seized were 11 cars and three four-wheelers investigators believe the suspect bought with proceeds from his methamphetamine sales.
During the investigation, two people showed up at the residence to buy a large quantity of meth, authorities said. More than $12,000 in cash was found in their possession, and that cash and their Land Rover also were seized by investigators.
Matthew G. York, 39, of Blue Ridge, Ga., and Leslie S. Webb, 59, of Jefferson, Colo., were arrested and charged with attempt or conspiracy to violate the Georgia Controlled Substance Act.
Bicycle videos lead to arrest
ANNISTON, Ala. - An Alabama man who enraged bicyclists with videos he posted on his Facebook page showing encounters with cyclists while he drove on roads is now facing a criminal charge.
Calhoun County sheriff's Chief Deputy Matthew Wade said Keith Maddox, of Piedmont, on Thursday was charged with reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor.
Bicyclists have complained about the videos, which they say depict behavior that could endanger cyclists.
In a brief phone interview Thursday before his arrest, Maddox told The Anniston Star that he's been advised by an attorney not to speak about the matter.
