BMC Racing's Taylor Phinney won the men's national time trial title on Saturday at the USA Cycling Professional Time Trial Championships in Chattanooga at the Volkswagen plant.
Phinney, the heavy favorite to reclaim the title he won in 2010, finished the 19-mile course in 37 minutes and 48 seconds.
Defending champion Tom Zirbel finished the course 50 second slower than Phinney, but he managed to hold on for second place ahead of David Williams.
