Don't be deceived by Amendment 1 foes

I see religious right leaders in the media frequently opining about the moral decay in America. What does it say about church leaders of today who promote deception about Amendment 1? Either these leaders have not done their research or they are being deceptive to amend our state Constitution. If Amendment 1 meets the requirements for passage, the state legislature will be authorized to pass whatever extreme measures that any outside group can create. Just like in other states, clinics in Tennessee could be closing. How can that be good for women and their health care? Religious right leaders are so obsessed with controlling women's reproductive choices that they are unwilling to realize that closing clinics will only endanger women's lives. Their claims about unregulated clinics are false; their claims about no informed consent also are false. Real concern for a woman's safety would not deny her the ability to make her own private, medical decisions. When will folks realize that they have been tricked by false claims? What does it say about the dangers of mixing religion and the dirty game of politics?

Howley a solid choice for Signal council

Chris Howley is the kind of leader we need on the Signal Mountain Town Council. I first became acquainted with him on our local ball fields where we both have served as coaches. Good or bad, youth sports reveal a lot about someone's character. I'm confident Chris will bring to the council the same principles of teamwork and respect that he has taught kids. Chris has also made his mark in business. Under his direction, Republic Parking has become one of the most successful firms in its industry. Importantly, in driving this result Chris has established himself as a person of integrity, both within his organization as well as with his customers. Finally, I believe he has the position of council member in the proper perspective. With a clear understanding of what makes Signal exceptional, he is seeking office to serve as a steward of what makes our Town great and is not motivated by politics. We're blessed to have someone of his character and leadership ability who is willing to give of his time to our community. Please join me in voting for Chris Howley for the Signal Mountain Town Council.

Price says liberal slant costs readers

To Bruce Hartmann: I read about your new job in the TFP. In that article you were lamenting how circulation of all newspapers is down, which included the TFP. The reason is simple ... marketing. Over 90 percent of your reporters and management are liberal. You present and select the hard news with a liberal bias. Marketing 101 would tell you that the [Hamilton] county is over 60 percent conservative/Republican. That means that over half of your potential readers don't agree with your political slant. So when they have to read something that is manipulative in the liberal direction they don't like it. Tired of this bias, a lot of people are canceling and getting their news elsewhere.
