University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Ka'Vonne Towns scored a career-high 18 points, but her final 3-point shot missed and the Mocs lost 59-57 to South Florida in the final game of the season-opening Chattanooga Tip-Off Challenge on Sunday afternoon at McKenzie Arena.
UTC (1-1) shot just 25 percent from the field in the first half and trailed 31-21 at halftime. But Towns and freshman Keiana Gilbert led the Mocs rally and UTC, tying the game at 45 with 9:46 remaining and holding a five-point lead at 57-52 with 3:52 remaining on a Towns 3-pointer.
But the Mocs failed to scored the rest of the game, and the Bulls (1-1) took the lead on two free-throws by Shaleth Stringfield with 58 seconds remaining and held on to snap UTC's home winning streak at 40 games.
