Chattanooga moved up the podium from bronze to silver, as the League of American Bicyclists named the city a Silver Level Bicycle Friendly Community on Tuesday morning.

This award adds Chattanooga to a group of communities leading the way in transforming neighborhoods to be more bicycle friendly, a news release from the City of Chattanooga states.

The move from bronze to silver recognizes Chattanooga's commitment to improving conditions for bicycling through investment in bicycling promotion, education programs, infrastructure and bicycling policies, the release says.

"Visionary community leaders are recognizing the real-time and long term impact that a culture of bicycling can create," said Andy Clarke, president of the League of American Bicyclists in a written statement. "We applaud this new round of communities for investing in a more sustainable future for the country and a healthier future for their residents and beyond."

A public unveiling of Chattanooga's new Silver Bicycle Friendly Community sign will take place in the next few weeks, according to the release.
