Softball

• The UTC softball program officially announced its six early signees for the 2015 class on Monday, and coach Frank Reed called it "one of our largest classes and strongest classes" in the announcement release. "It's a very versatile group. They're all listed to play a certain position, but so many of them have secondary positions they play very well. It will make up a very dangerous defense while sporting a powerful lineup." Pitcher, first baseman and outfielder Jordan Fortel from Greeneville, Tenn., joins two of her '97 Fury teammates from Chattanooga among the Mocs' recruits: all-state outfielder Alyssa Coppinger from Whitwell High School and strong-armed third baseman Katlyn Corum from Knoxville Halls High. And Halie Williamson from Boyd-Buchanan, a middle infielder and outfielder, is from the Fury '96 travel team. Catcher Amanda Beltran and first baseman and outfielder Emma Sturdivant will come to UTC from Villa Park (Calif.) High and the California Cruisers travel team. Both are in the 6-foot range, Reed said, and exhibit strength as well as talent. "These are two girls who verbally committed to us a couple of years ago at the Frost Classic," Reed said. "They probably could have played college ball the day they committed. They're going to be special to watch."
