Local CPA Henry Hoss has been appointed to Erlanger Health System board.

Hoss, who was appointed to the Board by the Legislative Delegation, co-owns Barto, Hoss & Company, P.C., which provides auditing, accounting, tax preparation and other financial services.

"We wanted another numbers person on there," said state Sen. Todd Gardenhire, who suggested Hoss' appointment, and who used Hoss as his treasurer during his senate campaign.

Hoss, who is not a stranger to the Erlanger board. In the late 1970s and during the 80s served on the old Erlanger Financial Review Board, which reviews the budget and makes recommendation on any bond issues.

Since then Hoss says he has watched Erlanger's ups and downs through previous presidents and administrations, and is looking forward to getting involved with current high-profile issues, like Erlanger's push to build a new children's hospital and its legal battle with Hutcheson Medical Center.

"I know Erlanger plays a very important role and delivers a tremendous amount of services to this community" Hoss said. "I'm very excited about the opportunity to get involved. "

Current board chairman Donnie Hutcherson, who is also a CPA, said Hoss would be a "a fantastic addition" to the board.

Hoss' resume includes accounting work for non-profits, municipalities, utilities and medical groups. He has served as a member of the City of Chattanooga Audit Committee and was recently appointed by Gov. Bill Haslam to the Tennessee State Board of Accountancy for a three year term.

Hoss has also served as treasurer and board member of the Ronald McDonald House for 25 years.

Because Erlanger is a public hospital, local county and state officials appoint most of the members to its 11-member board.
