3-year-old boy dies after being hit by car in Opelika, Alabama

OPELIKA, Ala. - Authorities in Opelika, Alabama say a 3-year-old boy who was hit by a car has died.

Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said in a statement that the boy was hit by a car Saturday afternoon and was airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta-Egleston. The boy was pronounced dead Sunday morning. His identity hasn't been released.

Harris says while authorities were responding to the boy they also found an injured 31-year-old woman who was airlifted to the Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia. Details on the woman's injuries weren't immediately available.

Harris says investigators are trying to determine the circumstances that led to the incidents.
