Williams scores 20 in Sewanee OT loss

Jorden Williams from McCallie School scored 20 points and Sewanee teammate Brody Stone had 18 points and eight rebounds, but the Tigers lost 69-64 in overtime in NCAA Division III men's basketball Saturday at Maryville College, which was predicted to win its USA South league.

Keshonn Carter added 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds for Sewanee (1-1), a Southern Athletic Association team. Oscar Butler led Maryville (2-1) with 19 points.

• Lee (w) 70, Brescia 54: At Cleveland, the Lady Flames pulled away in the second half to their third win in three games. Erin Walsh scored 19 points and Emileigh Swafford had 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Lee totaled 11 blocked shots.

• Truett-McConnell 73, Tennessee Wesleyan 69: At Athens, Tenn., the visitors overcame an 11-point deficit in the last 14 minutes of the Appalachian Athletic Conference game and won behind 25 points from Rudy Deaza and 14 points and 14 rebounds from J'QuayveonWilliams. Devante Jenkins had 21 points and 17 rebounds (eight offensive) for Wesleyan, which got 13 points apiece from Stephen Kite Jr. and Justin Simmons. Bryan is 7-0, 3-0 in the AAC after winning 80-73 at Point.

• Tennessee Wesleyan (w) 66, Truett-McConnell 30: The Lady Bulldogs jumped to a 35-10 halftime lead and breezed to the AAC victory. Sarah McKinnon had 14 points and Kelsey Young and Jara Gasper added 11 and 10 for TWC (8-0, 4-0). Rhande Haskett from Ridgeland High School led the visitors with eight points and eight rebounds. Bryan won 64-48 at Point and is 7-1, 3-0.

• Birmingham-Southern 87, Covenant 67: At Birmingham, Covenant's Colton McGriff and Chris Boyd scored 18 and 16 points, Boyd adding five assists, but the Panthers (4-0) shot 62 percent from the field and had five double-figure scorers, led by Larry Thomas with 26 points.

• Hanover (w) 100, Covenant 57: At Lexington, Ky., Morgan Woodward scored 18 points and Rachel Price added 12 points and seven rebounds in the Lady Scots' loss. Kelsey Block led Hanover with four 3s and 21 points.

• Cleveland State 79, Volunteer State 68: At Cleveland, the Cougars won the TCCAA game behind 32 points and seven rebounds from Rico Overall, 18 points from Orlando Moore and five steals and four assists from Darrion Leslie.

• Volunteer State (w) 64, Cleveland State 63: TeeTee Flowers scored 19 points as the Lady Pioneers rose to 5-1, 4-1 in the TCCAA. Jamesha Mosley scored 13 points, My'Asia Holmes added 11 and Brandi Whitted had four steals for the Lady Cougars, who trailed by seven with 40 seconds to go but got back-to-back 3s by Mosley following turnovers off the press.

• Dalton State 88, Faulkner 74: Friday at Montgomery, Ala., the Roadrunners rose to 5-0 overall in winning their SSAC opener against the previously undefeated home team. LaDaris Green and Preston Earle had 18 and 17 points and 14 and eight rebounds in the win for the Roadrunners, while Sean Tate, Jamaine Burrey and Anthony Hilliard scored 12, 11 and 10 points.
