Pricey townhouses planned for downtown Chattanooga

More upscale townhouses are coming to downtown Chattanooga as a developer is moving ahead with plans to build up to a dozen on Walnut Street.

Urban Renaissance Group LLC told a city panel today it wants to move on its option to buy a strip of land on Walnut between Aquarium Way and Third Street to build the townhouses.

Dale Mabee, chief manager of Urban Renaissance, said the units are likely to sell from $600,000 to around $1 million a piece. The purchase price for the tract is about $850,000, he said at a meeting of the Chattanooga Downtown Redevelopment Corp.

The development group already has built similar townhouses on Cherry Street between Aquarium Way and Third. It also has constructed smaller units along Third Street.

"It gives us an opportunity to meet more demand in the market," Mabee said.
