Barnes & Noble book fair benefits Read 20

A three-day book fair at Barnes & Noble Hamilton Place could be a book bonanza for Read 20 Chattanooga.

The event is part of a larger holiday book drive in all Barnes & Noble stores that asks customers to purchase books on behalf of nonprofit agencies that serve children. Last year, customers and booksellers provided more than 1.5 million books to some 2,000 charitable organizations in their communities, including schools, libraries, literacy organizations, family social service agencies and homeless centers. This year's campaign will continue through Thursday, Jan. 1.

Sarah DiFrancesco, the chain's vice president of business development, says the holiday book drive is a favorite of both booksellers and customers.

"Customers often purchase and donate a personal childhood favorite as a way to pass on a holiday tradition to a child in their local community," she says.

Special programming during the three-day book fair includes visits from the Read 20 Readmobile. Storytime with Mrs. Claus is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 29-30. Storyteller Sam Trapnell will read "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" at 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1.

The local store is at 2100 Hamilton Place Blvd. For more information, call Kelly Flemings at 423-893-0186 or email crm2337@bn.com.
