The first of three off-site presentations of "Sanders Family Christmas" by the Cumberland County Playhouse will happen Sunday, Nov. 30, in Dayton, Tenn. The touring engagements also include Cleveland, Tenn., on Thursday, Dec. 4, and Etowah, Tenn., on Friday, Dec. 12.

The holiday production inside the Rhea County Courthouse follows the success of a Scopes Trial play in September that teamed CCP actors, technicians and musicians with Scopes Festival veteran actors and Bryan College interns.

"Sanders Family Christmas" is the sequel to the highly popular "Smoke on the Mountain" created by Connie Ray and Alan Bailey.

Both musical comedies feature the gospel-singing Sanders family. The Christmas production is set in 1941, just after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The family has returned to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church on Christmas Eve to share music and testimony. The production features 25 Southern gospel Christmas favorites performed by the actors.

Proceeds from the Dayton show benefit the Scopes Trial Festival, Cumberland County Playhouse and the Festival/Playhouse partnership.
