Tree lighting in Collegedale, parade in Athens

Two Southeast Tennessee communities have announced plans for holiday festivities the first week of December.

> Athens: The Jimmy Liner Memorial Christmas Parade is scheduled at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, starting and ending at Athens City Middle School, 200 Keith Lane. Other streets on the route are Madison Avenue, Jackson Street, White Street and Washington Avenue.

Organizers with the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce say it is one of the oldest Christmas parades in the state. It will feeature local bands and dancers, antique cars, floats strung with lights and a North Pole VIP.

> Collegedale: Southern Adventist University will host its annual Christmas tree lighting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2.

A short program will include performances by Deep 6, Southern Ringtones, Expressions of Praise, Collegedale Academy Band and the Southern Strings and Jazz ensembles. Refreshments will be provided.

Admission is free.
