18 wheels, a couple of beers, a crash on Browns Ferry Road and a half-dozen charges

What started as a routine one-vehicle accident investigation ended with an arrest and six charges for the driver on Thursday.

Nathan Moore, 37, crashed an 18-wheeler into a tree along Browns Ferry Road just after 5 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, according to the Chattanooga police affidavit. As he was being treated for minor injuries, Moore admitted to medics that he drank two 40-ounce cans of beer before he hit the road that night.

Moore then told officers that he did not have his driver's license with him, but did provide his basic identifying information to police. Officers discovered that Moore's driver's license had been revoked because of DUI charges on his record.

As Moore was being treated at the scene, an officer called the owner of the company whose truck Moore was driving. The owner told police no one had his permission to drive the vehicle; that he didn't know Moore and that the truck had been stolen.

Moore was taken to a hospital, given a blood test to determine the level of alcohol in his system and arrested on charges of driving on a revoked license, violating the implied consent law, failure to maintain lane, giving false reports, driving under the influence and theft.

He is being held in the Hamilton County Jail on a $2,000 bond. Moore's criminal history in Hamilton County dates back to 2000 and includes charges of assault, disorderly conduct, vandalism, burglary and several traffic-related charges.

He is scheduled to appear in Hamilton County Sessions Court on Dec. 4.
