ONLINECheck out some Haunted Houses that have already opened for the season.

What makes October such a scary month? Maybe the fact that so many spooks come out to play.

This weekend marks the debut of five haunted attractions around the region, including returning favorites Lake WinnepeSpookah in Rossville and The Haunted Barn in McDonald, Tenn., plus the new Survive Alive for Chattanooga zombie hunters.

They follow the Haunted Cavern at Ruby Falls and The Haunted Hilltop on Highway 58, both of which opened last week.

Four nighttime haunts - Blowing Screams Farm in Flintstone, Ga., Redneck Zombie Paintball in Riceville, Tenn., Mayfield Haunted Trail in Athens, Tenn., and The River Maze in Ocoee, Tenn. - operate corn mazes during the day, but all are open late Fridays and Saturdays in October. And if you think the wind rustling through the corn is scary during the day, just imagine how it sounds in the dark.
