Polk County and state officials say one lane is open on U.S. Highway 64 where a rock slide that happened earlier this morning is obstructing traffic.

A Polk County dispatcher said a large boulder - about 15 feet by 24 feet - was reported in the eastbound lane of Highway 64.

Traffic is being routed around the big rock until crews can start removing it.

There were no injuries or private property damage, officials said.

Tennessee Department of Transportation spokeswoman Jennifer Flynn said the rock slide happened between the Greasy Creek Bridge on the eastern end of Lake Ocoee and Madden's Branch around 3:49 a.m.

Flynn said the exact location of the slide is at log mile 10.8, one-tenth of a mile east of a fenced-off area where a previous, larger slide happened in the past.

Crews will have to break up the large boulder and move it and some smaller debris once more equipment arrives at the slide location.

Meanwhile, flaggers are directing traffic which is expected to be flowing normally again by this afternoon.

"Traffic is still able to get through," Flynn said. "We're asking everyone to be patient while we take care of it as quickly and safely as we can."
