Led by Madison Alexander's 65 for a 134 two-day total, the Lee University women's golf team shot a team-record 276 for 18 holes Monday and won the BSC Southern Shootout Championship for the fourth time in five appearances. Lee's 571 on the Highland Park course in Birmingham cleared runner-up University of the Cumberlands by 11 strokes. Besides Alexander's medalist performance, freshman Caroline Moore was all-tournament with a 142, Bernardette Little was seventh at 147 and Sam Burrus closed with a 70 to help set the record.

• The Lee men's golfers took the lead in the National Christian College Athletic Association Mid-East Region tournament Monday with a 296 on the Old Silos Golf Club at Mount Sterling, Ky. The Flames, the defending NCCAA champions, lead second-place Bluefield by 20 strokes, and Hiwassee is fifth at 322. Freshman Corey Sheppard led Lee and the field with a 70, while Peyton Sliger shot a 74 and Taylor Davis, Matt Strube and Adam Wright had 76s.

• With a season-low round of 305 in the second round Monday, the Covenant College men's golf team is in eighth place at 629 two-thirds of the way through the Buccaneer tournament hosted by Christian Brothers University at Southaven, Miss. Alan Craig shot a 74, Nick Blauw had a 75 and Scott McKnight had a 76 for the Scots in round two. Craig is tied for 21st individually at 150, and McKnight is at 154.

• Sewanee senior Saer Brown is tied for 21st indivdually at 74 in the Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Fall Invitational golf tournament at Flowery Branch, Ga., and the Tigers share 11th place at 306, 16 shots behind first-place Centre. Sewanee's Alex Wedding is tied for 31st at 75.

Volleyball

• Belmont University senior middle blocker Alex Martin from Ooltewah High School was the Ohio Valley Conference volleyball defensive player of the week for her 15 blocks and 15 kills in conference wins over Tennessee State and Eastern Illinois, She had 10 of the kills against EIU.

• Dalton State junior setter Michala Askew from Ringgold was the Southern States Athletic Conference volleyball player of the week for her 120 assists and 44 digs in three matches for the Lady Roadrunners. She has 370 assists for the season, and DSC is in fourth place in the SSAC.

• Covenant junior Chelsea VanDyk was the USA South volleyball player of the week after averaging 3.5 kills per set and compiling a .514 hitting percentage in a 3-0 week for the Lady Scots. Meanwhile, Covenant freshman Eliot Kaufmann was the men's rookie cross country runner of the week for the fifth time, to go with three runner-of-the-week honors, after he finished third out of 80 runners in the Maryville College 8k race.

• Sewanee's Sara Jayne Sutton was the Southern Athletic Association volleyball defensive player of the week after totaling 63 digs in weekend matches against Birmingham-Southern and Millsaps.

Auto Racing

• Charlie Patterson from Rockwood was the Super Pro winner Saturday night at the Brainerd Optimist Drag Strip. Patterson won $2,000 with a final 5.65-second run on a 5.64 dial in his 1968 Plymouth Barracuda. Louis Trentham was second with a 6.42 on a 6.40 in his 1964 Chevrolet Nova. Steve Adams won the new Crazy 8 class with 17-year-old Brandon Hopkins second, and Benji Ross won the 6.50-second class with a 6.52 run, while Ricky Millard Jr. wa second. Stephen Ingram from Cartersville won the Foot Brake class with a 6.54 on a 6.53 in a 1966 Nova, with strip Hall of Famer L.C. Bigham of Tunnel Hill second.

Baseball

• The Chattanooga Cyclones K fall baseball team went 3-1 in the Southern Wood Bat Fall World Series this past weekend on the Lee University and Cleveland State fields. Alex Barbee was the winning pitcher and Cade Evans had two hits and scored twice in an 8-0 defeat of the Cyclones H, and Logan Haga had a three-run hit and Corey Edgemon scored two runs in a 6-2 win over the Doubleday Rockies 18s, as D.C. Lancaster got the pitching win and Seth Wicker had a save. Rickey Vaughn was the winner and Hunter Oliver had three RBIs, Haga two RBIs, Noah Hill two hits and two runs and Edgemon four runs in a 9-3 victory over the OTC 18s. The Cyclones (23-3) lost 2-1 to the Clarkesville Orioles.

Soccer

• Senior Brooke Gann from East Ridge added to her Trevecca Nazarene career record for goals with the early score in a 2-0 win Monday at King. Gann's goal clipped off the crossbar and into the net, giving her 28.

• Sewanee's Jamie Samociuk was the SAA women's soccer offensive player of the week after assisting on both Tigers scores in Saturday's 2-1 overtime win over Centre.

• Five players scored for Young Harris in a 5-0 women's soccer win over visiting Tennessee Temple on Monday. Lindi Dodd made 12 saves for Temple (2-8), which was on the short end of a 17-0 margin in shots on goal.
