Volkswagen brand up slightly worldwide in September

Volkswagen today reported that global sales for its namesake brand were up slightly as decreases in the U.S., Russia and Brazil were overcome by upswings in China and Western Europe.

The brand handed over 534,800 vehicles last month worldwide, up 0.2 percent.

January through September sales are up 3 percent to 4.56 million vehicles, according to VW.

"The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand is benefiting above all from good developments in Western Europe and the continued positive trend in China, where we handed over more than 2 million models to customers in the first three quarters for the first time," said Christian Klingler, the company's board member for sales and marketing for the Volkswagen Group, said in Wolfsburg on Tuesday.
