Times Free Press owner inducted into Hall of Fame

Walter E. Hussman Jr., the owner of the Chattanooga Times Free Press, has been inducted into the North Carolina Journalism Hall of Fame.

Hussman is the chief executive officer of media conglomerate WEHCO Media Inc. He is a third-generation newspaperman, and he began his career as a reporter at Forbes magazine in 1970. In 1999, Hussman brokered the merger of the Chattanooga Times and the Chattanooga Free Press into the current paper.

More recently, Hussman also chose a new president for the Times Free Press, Bruce Hartmann.

Hussman's previous awards include Editor & Publisher of the Year in 2008; first recipient of the Frank Mayborn Leadership Award from the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association; and induction into the Arkansas Business Hall of Fame in 2012, among other achievements.
