Volleyball Mocs win fourth in row

Allie Davenport registered 17 kills and 13 digs as the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga volleyball team recorded its fourth victory in a row Saturday, 3-0 at Mercer, and rose to 4-2 in the Southern Conference.

Lauren Gainer and Nicole Sumida had nine kills each and Kristy Wieser and Julimar Alvarado added eight apiece in the 11-10 Mocs' 25-20, 20-25, 25-23, 30-28 triumph. Lauren Greenspoon and Anne Bachman had 29 and 20 set assists and Cathrine Chason had 16 digs, while Gainer made two block solos and six block assists.

"It was a tough win," UTC coach Travis Filar said in a school release. "We even ran out of subs in the fourth set, but the team gutted it out and came away winners. I am extremely proud of how hard we played today."

Mercer is 4-13, 1-4 in the SoCon.

• At Dayton, Tenn., Bryan extended its winning streak to 18 with a 3-0 (20-25, 25-11, 25-9) Appalachian Athletic Conference win over Columbia (S.C.). Ashley Mattoch had nine kills and Meghan Lowry and Kara Stamper had eight each for the Lady Lions (19-3, 10-0), while Taylor Fink had 26 assists.

• At Pensacola, Fla., West Florida dropped Lee to 6-11, 4-7 in the Gulf South, with a 3-0 win (25-22, 25-13, 25-14) featuring a combined 25 kills by Cora Bidlack and Corisha Smith. Latrice Johson led Lee with nine kills and seven digs, while Lauren Williams had three block solos and a block assist and Sadie Johnson set 10 assists. UWF is 16-2, 10-2.

• At Maryville, Tenn., Ginny Moore totaled 27 kills in Covenant's 3-0 wins over USA South foes Greensboro College and Mary Baldwin. She had 15 in the 25-14, 25-11, 25-16 defeat of winless Mary Baldwin for the Lady Scots (18-6, 7-1), who got 16 and 14 assists from Schuyler Moore and Jessica Seehorn, four aces from Maddie Wieskamp and 11 digs from Chloe Carlson. Carlson had 16 digs against Greensboro, when Stephanie Kirkpatrick had 15 assists and Schuyler Moore had 14 assists with seven kills and six aces.

• At Sewanee, Tenn., Berry (13-10, 8-2) defeated Sewanee 3-1 in a Southern Athletic Association match with 17 kills by Katie O'Rourke, 15 and 12 by Emily Stromberg and Anna Keappler and 42 assists by Lauren Schmitz. For the Tigers (5-14, 1-7), Jamie Sue Wilson had 12 kills and 19 digs, Sara Jayne Sutton added 15 digs and Rachel Schuman and Walker Buxton had 15 and 10 assists.

• At Newberry, S.C., Rachel Harper from Boyd-Buchanan had 17 kills, 16 digs, four block assists and her 100th collegiate ace in Carson-Newman's 3-2 South Atlantic Conference win over Newberry College. Kristen Pickett from Cleveland High had 38 assists, nine digs and three aces for the Lady Eagles (14-4, 10-1).
