New free app untangles voting confusion in Tennessee

NASHVILLE - If you're confused about who's running and where you can vote in Tennnessee's Nov. 4 election, the state now has an easy way for you to find out.

With early voting starting Wednesday, Secretary of State Tre Hargett announced the launch of a smartphone app, GoVoteTN, which is designed to provide answers to those and other questions voters may have.

"Tennesseans make an effort every election season to go vote," Hargett said. "We are are trying to match that effort and give them easier acess to information like polling location maps and hours, election commission contact information and sample ballots in order to assist Tennessee voters."

The app is free. By entering their name or address, registered voters can find their nearest early voting locations, all the candidates whose names will appear on their and more.

Hargett told reporters this afternoon his office did much of the work in-house and used an outside contractor on some technical issues. The total cost was about $26,000.
