The Geico Skytypers airshow team.The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and the Geico Skytypers airshow team, above, will be among the highlights of the Wings Over North Georgia Airshow in Rome this weekend.
The 75-year-old planes flown by the Skytypers will demonstrate low-altitude, precision-formation techniques demanded of Navy pilots flying missions everywhere from Korea to Kenya. Also The Geico Skytypers will demonstrate the six-plane, wingtip-to-wingtip maneuvers in their vintage warbirds. The Thunderbirds will demonstrate the same formations in modern-day F-16 Fighting Falcons.
Airshow hours are 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, with a concert, nighttime airshow and fireworks finale following from 4:30 to 10 p.m. Hours Sunday are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission each day is $20 for adults, $15 for youth, military, fire and police personnel and seniors, free for kids under 5.
