Updated at 7:56 p.m. to correct the number of aggravated assault charges to one, reflecting a correction sent from the police department.

Around 3 p.m. this afternoon, East Ridge police responded to a traffic accident at the intersection of South Moore Road and South Terrace, according to a news release from East Ridge Police Department. As officers arrived on the scene, they became aware that weapons were involved and shots had been fired.

Elizabeth Clark, 23, was brandishing a handgun when officers arrived, and she initially refused to drop her weapon. After numerous commands, she obeyed the officers.

The release said police then discovered that Clark's car had been rear-ended by a car driven by Oscar Jackson, 23. Witnesses said after the accident, Jackson and Clark began arguing. Clark's husband, Justin Clark, got out of the car and was struck by Jackson. At that point, Clark got her gun and pointed it at Jackson, Jackson's passenger and toward numerous bystanders, according to the release.

She fired one round in the air.

Police charged Clark with one count of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment. Jackson was charged with simple assault. Their Court dates are set for Tues., Oct. 21 at 5:00 p.m.
