ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. - Police in Cheatham County say a dentist showed up to work drunk.

Ashland City Police arrested 54-year-old Dr. Stephen Kaufman at his office. He is charged with driving under the influence, reckless endangerment and violation of implied consent law.

WTVF-TV in Nashville reports the incident occurred just after 1 p.m. at Cheatham Family Dentistry on Thursday.

A police report stated that officers arrived to find the dentist inside the office working on a patient. He was dressed in a T-shirt, shorts and flip-flops, and had red, watery eyes and smelled of alcohol. The report said Kaufman failed field sobriety tests.

Neither Kaufman nor his attorney could be reached for comment Friday. He was released on a $3,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court November 6.
