Dade County transfer and current Silverdale Baptist Academy junior Ali Birchfield has accepted a softball scholarship offer from Trevecca Nazarene in Nashville.

Birchfield said Trevecca coach Ben Tyree began noticing her at the beginning of the summer with her 16-under Frost Falcons team, and after a conversation with him toward the end of summer they stayed in touch. She went there the first weekend in October.

"I actually practiced with them on my unofficial visit and played shortstop for him," Birchfield said. "I believe that's where he wants me. I knew I wanted to go somewhere where it was close-knit. I felt real comfortable being there. The facilities were also beautiful and the softball field was nice. It's somewhere I could see spending four years of my life."

Birchfield had a .410 batting average her last season at Dade County and a .493 average this past summer with the Falcons, playing third base. Falcons and SBA coach Tim Couch said she will likely be a middle infielder for the Lady Seahawks.

"I have personally known Ali for over a year now, had her in a Frost Falcons camp and watched her play extensively," Couch said. "Ali is a gifted hitter, with really good speed and is solid in the field."

Birchfield plans to study theology and audiology.
