UTC student sentenced for putting spy camera in restroom

The UTC student accused of placing a hidden camera in a Chattanooga Billiard Club restroom pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges Tuesday.

Justin Wilson, 21, was arrested in July after a patron found a pen-shaped camera in a men's restroom at the downtown club. On it were folders with photos and videos of area restrooms. Police said the camera recorded footage from the restroom at a Kangaroo gas station on Signal Mountain Road.

Wilson said he didn't know how it landed at the Billiard Club. Instead, Wilson said, he was just trying to catch whoever had been vandalizing the bathroom at the Kangaroo station.

Wilson was charged with observation without consent.

On Tuesday, Judge Lila Statom sentenced Wilson to 11 months and 29 days of probation. She ordered him to stay away from the Billiard Club and all Kangaroo stores. He will not be required to register as a sex offender.
