ANAHEIM, Calif. - Two men were arrested in the killing of a 9-year-old Anaheim girl who was shot by stray gunfire while playing outside her apartment, police said Saturday.

Ricardo Cruz, 19, of Buena Park and Alfredo Miguel Aquino, 20, of Anaheim were arrested late Friday and booked on suspicion of murder in the death of Ximena Meza.

Meza was playing with her sisters and other children outside her Greenacre Avenue apartment Wednesday when a man got out of a white car and opened fire on a group of men nearby.

The neighborhood is a gang-plagued area in Anaheim - a city famous for Disneyland but one that has its share of urban problems. Police said the shooting was believed to gang related.

Meza was struck in the chest by a single bullet and died later. The intended targets ran and the shooter and a driver fled in the white car. No other gunshot victims were found.

The two suspects were being held on $1 million bail. It was not immediately clear if either had a lawyer.

Police scheduled a Saturday afternoon news conference to discuss the arrests.

A $50,000 reward was offered for information leading to an arrest, but it wasn't clear if that helped police nab the suspects.
