The Lee University golf teams are in second place among the men and fourth among the women in the NCCAA golf tournament at The Hombre at Panama City Beach, Fla. The Flames' Taylor Davis and Peyton Sliger are tied for second individually at 145 with a round to go, and Matt Strube shares ninth at 147. Lee is at 591, two shots behind Colorado Christian in the 12-team field. The Lady Flames are at 632, seven shots behind leader Dallas Baptist and four behind second-place Shorter. Lee's Sam Burrus is fourth individually at 154 with Bernardette Little tied for sixth at 157, and Cailey Gio, Madison Alexander and Caroline Moore also in the top 20 at 162, 163 and 164.

• Led by junior Isabella Loza's career-best 221 for 54 totals, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's golf team finished in a tie for eighth place Tuesday at the Palmetto Intercollegiate tournament at Kiawah Island, S.C. Coastal Carolina won the 20-team event with a 2-over-par 866, 12 shots better than runner-up Augusta. Furman was a close third at 879. UTC and Kansas State finished at 906, one behind Campbell and one better than East Tennessee State. Loza closed with a 73 and shared 12th individually, while teammates Emily McLennan and Megan Woods tied for 31st and 33rd at 226 and 228.

• The Dalton State women's golfers shot 10 strokes better Tuesday than Monday in the 16-team NAIA Fall Preview at Pooler, Ga., and finished fifth in their last tournament of the program's first semester. Erika Wardzinski led the Lady Roadrunners with a 152, and Caroline Griffin was one stroke behind. First-round team leader Julia McQuilken withdrew due to illness.

Basketball

• Tennessee Temple University began the area college basketball season Monday night by beating the Fisk teams at McGilvray Gymnasium, 70-55 in the women's game and 95-92 in overtime in the men's. Travaris Clarke scored 31 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the field for the Crusaders, who got 21 points with five 3-point baskets from Weedlens Beauvil, 15 points and 18 rebounds from Cameron High and eight assists with nine points from Sean Anthony. Michael Vardaman and Richmond Jackson scored 23 and 21 points for Fisk, and Austin Watkins had 16 points and 12 rebounds. For the Lady Crusaders, Amanda Rector and Angel Foster had 24 and 21 points and 11 and 14 rebounds, Foster adding six steals, and Bree Smith scored 12 points. Temple led 34-15 at halftime. Fisk got 15 and 13 points from Nailah Whitlock and Telliya Patton, and Sommer Griffin had 12 rebounds.

Soccer

• Former Girls Preparatory School multisport star Simone Busby is a junior goalkeeper for the Evansville women's soccer team and has been part of 12 shutouts this season, which ties a school record. The most recent was a 3-0 win for the Purple Aces last Saturday against Northern Iowa. The last season with 12 shutout wins was 2000. Busby was the Missouri Valley Conference goalkeeper of the year and first-team all-conference as a freshman in 2012 and second-team All-MVC and an All-MVC tournament player in 2013.

• Sewanee goalkeeper Olivia Glascoe was the Southern Athletic Association women's soccer defensive player of the week after allowing only two scores in wins this past weekend against Millsaps and Birmingham-Southern. The Tigers have won three matches in a row and eight out of 10, and Glascoe allowed only 10 goals in that span.

Volleyball

• The Bryan College volleyball team improved to 12-0 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference and 21-8 overall with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-15) home win Tuesday night against second-place Union College (22-9, 10-2). Kara Stamper had 13 kills and Ashley Mattoch and Ashley Ferris added nine and eight for Bryan, while Taylor Fink had 35 assists, Madison Akins had 16 digs and Kristen Parrish served three aces.

• Lee University won its third straight Gulf South Conference volleyball match with a 3-0 victory Tuesday at West Georgia. Lauren Williams had 12 kills and Sadie Johnson and Haley Foote had 20 and 18 assists in the 25-23, 25-20, 26-24 win for the Lady Flames (10-16, 7-9), and Stephanie Hernandez and Sarah Davis had 15 and 10 digs. Kendall Williams from Ringgold led West Georgia (5-20, 2-14) in kills with nine.

• Tennessee Temple takes a 22-11 volleyball record into the USCAA national tournament Thursday in upstate New York after a 3-0 win (25-13, 25-22, 25-17) Monday at Toccoa Falls. Naomi Posada and Amy Keokanlaya had 18 and 17 digs and Shatoya Medford had eight kills for Temple.
