Candy's dandy, but some ghosts and goblins crave more than sweets on Halloween. Here are a few ideas beyond the trick-or-treat circuit.
Blowing Screams Farm

The Haunted Barn

> What to expect: Descend 26 stories into the underground mining town of Carrion Ridge, the last known settlement visited by Elder Shaw's Miraculous Medicine Show before the plague-infected citizens staged an uprising in 1822.

Mayfield Haunted Trail

> When: Open from dusk till 11 p.m. today through Saturday, Oct. 30-Nov. 1. (Corn maze and pumpkin patch open through Sunday, Nov. 2.)
> What to expect: Set on the burial site of a 19th-century judge, the trail through the woods and corn is said to be inhabited by the restless souls he sentenced.

Mystery Dog Haunted Ranch and Hayride

> What to expect: Recruits gear up on Zombie Fighting Vehicles to eliminate the virus-infected zombies created when a military operation went awry. The zombies won't shoot back, but they do want your flesh.
