Healthy living Chattanooga Market's theme

Its all about healthy living - fresh produce and free health screenings - when Chattanooga Market hosts the Erlanger HealthFair on Sunday, Nov. 2.

Erlanger spokeswoman Susan Sawyer says in addition to free health screenings, such as blood pressure and memory assessments, there will be medical professionals from more than two dozen service areas on hand to answer questions. Among them will be representatives of Erlanger's Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Center, UT-Erlanger Cardiology, Erlanger's transplant center, cancer center, urology center and Safe and Sound children's injury prevention program.

"We are in the process of getting a new da Vinci Si. It's a robot for minimally invasive surgical procedures where the surgeon sits at a control and operates these fingerlike devices on the patient. We are getting a miniature da Vinci that will be on display - kids can even try it out," Sawyer says.

Additionally, anyone wishing to make an appointment for a mammogram or other testing at an Erlanger satellite location can do so at Sunday's market.

There will be recipe ideas for healthy meals - and visitors can shop the vendors to buy the ingredients before leaving the market.

Singer/songwriter and acoustic guitarist David Elliott of Rome, Ga., will entertain visitors from 12:20 to 1:30 p.m. singing his original tunes.

At 2 p.m., the Metro Musicians will take the stage for an hourlong performance. Metro Musicians is a volunteer community concert band directed by Bobby Dugan.

"We'll do some marches, a Tennessee salute that includes 'Rocky Top,' 'Lord of the Dance' from Riverdance and we have Dr. Chris Cunningham, a UTC psychology professor, playing the trumpet solo on 'Stardust,'" Dugan says.

Dugan says the band's featured vocalist will be Lindsey Brown, a Central High School alumna who was cast as Belle and Pocahontas in Walt Disney World productions. She'll sing "Blue Moon" by Richard Rodgers and "They Can't Take That Away From Me" by George Gershwin.
