No matter what statistic one chooses to look at from Thursday's District 7-AA high school football game at Signal Mountain, it will help reveal what a dominating performance Signal Mountain had against Sequatchie County. And the 58-3 final score is every bit indicative of how the game went.

It marked the final regular-season game for both teams, although the big victory will serve as a springboard into the Class 4A state playoffs for the Eagles, who are district runners-up at 4-1.

"We're 8-2 and lost to two good football teams," Signal Mountain coach Bill Price said. "The playoffs start Monday for us. That's when we start getting ready. The kids are looking forward to it."

The Eagles had the ball at their 36-yard line with the opening possession and moved it to the Indians' 22 before turning it over on downs. Even so, they still had time to pile up three touchdowns and a safety before the first quarter ended.

"We played well early," Price said. "We took care of business early."

By halftime the score was 44-0. Signal Mountain also had a 16-2 edge in first downs at the break.

The Eagles piled up 240 rushing yards by intermission, and quarterback Jack Teter's 8-of-11 passing performance for 128 yards and four touchdowns was all before halftime. Signal Mountain did not have a turnover in the game but forced two.

Sequatchie County quarterback Colby Reed ended up the Indians' leading rusher with 56 yards, but six of his 15 carries went for negative yardage. He finished the night with 16 passing yards.

"We were playing a lot of next year's kids," said Sequatchie coach Ken Colquette, whose team ended up 3-7 overall and 1-4 in the district. "We've had a lot of injuries the last three games. We knew it would be a struggle, and it showed. We had three of four games we should've won. This one we shouldn't have."

Hunter VanDyken was the Eagles' leader from scrimmage with 106 yards on 15 carries. He ran for the first touchdown and also caught one of the TD passes. Nathan Johnson's 96 rushing yards included a 52-yard scoring run 1:36 before halftime.

John Ryan Wilson was Signal Mountain's leading receiver with four receptions for 48 yards and a touchdown. Both of Chris Feemster's catches went for TDs.
